Mt Ruapehu is home to New Zealand’s largest Ski Area, National Park Village is in a prime situation to service both Whakapapa and Turoa Ski fields.

Whakapapa Ski Area is located on the north western slopes of Mt. Ruapehu, 10 minutes drive from National Park Village, and has spectacular views across central North Island. Whakapapa’s Happy Valley is renowned for its world class beginner facilities, but has also numerous options for the intermediate and more advanced skier and boarder. Turoa Ski Area is located on the south western slopes of Mt. Ruapehu, 45 minutes from National Park Village, with spectacular views towards Mt Taranaki. Turoa is a supreme winter playground for beginners right through to advanced skiers and boarders.

At Howard’s Lodge Skishop we have a wide range of rental skis and snowboards. We even rent out jackets and pants. All our equipment is  in great condition and regularly tuned.


About Howards Lodge

Howard’s Lodge is the ultimate start for all outdoor adventure in Tongariro National Park, Ruapehu Skifields and Whanganui National Park.

The lodge offers a broad variety of accommodation ranging from budget rooms to ensuite rooms. Daily transport to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and the 42 Traverse Mountain bike track, Rental of ski equipment, tramping boots and walkingpoles and mountain bikes.

National Park Village is located at the intersection of State Highway No. 4 and State Highway No. 47 on the volcanic Plateau.

Howard’s Lodge is ideally positioned, close to Tongariro National Park, Whakapapa and Turoa Skifields and the Whanganui National Park in the Central North Island.
